Thanks for the answers, JW. I've read McMillan. Believe me, I've practiced these defensive measures, except for writing a straddle/strangle. It is a wholly ungratifying experience to watch your "Wonder Stock" fall so much that, despite your best efforts, you are just hoping to break even. Been there, done that. Similar to owning stocks, I feel it's best to have a good sized portfolio of stocks on which to write options. That way, if a few tank, hopefully the rest will pull them up. JMHO. To me this requires somewhere in the range of 100-200K, which I'm neither prepared nor able to commit to options right now. Ergo, why I'm only currently paper-trading.
