Chris - good explanation of the derivation of the "whisper number". In the old days, it was the number you got when you played golf with the CEO on Saturday prior to the earnings release, and whispered it to your friends and business associates. Ahh, the old days.

As a long time reader, it never ceases to amaze me at the short-sightedness of traders and new investors. Having owned CSCO since mid-93, and watching the investment grow 1000%, paying no capital gains taxes, but having gone through a couple of gut-wrenching corrections, I would recommend buying CSCO and holding until their business fundamentals change. Not too many $90B companies have the capability to grow at sustained levels of 25 to 30%. Those who choose to run with the momentum crowd have to earn an extra percentage to pay Uncle Sam. Buy CSCO if you believe in the company, go elsewhere if you don't. Pretty simple in this case.
