Luc, I have the same question - how do I find good investment opportunities in this area. Here is what I know. Also look at REDHERRING (8/97) and INFORMATIONWEEK sites for additional info on this subject. I hope others on this thread would add to it.

There two distinct markets:
The first market is for the individual use. It is used to dictate text to the computer which the computer creates into a WORD document. Doctors, lawyers, reporters, politician are natural candidates for this software. In this category, Lernout & Houspie(LHS) is the leader and Dragon(DRAGONSYS) is a pretty good second.

The second market is for enterprise. You probably used Interactive Voice recognition Systems to inquire about your 401(K) balance, about your bank balances and many other. Now, instead of punching numbers, you can speak to the computer. Recently I tried a system to trade stock as if I was talking to a broker. E-Trade is testing it out. Here there are several - Nuance(NUANCE), Applied Language Technologies and Inter Voice. There is a very large installed base of Call Centers which are all trying to convert to this new technology. There are new applications like Trading that are natural for this technology.
