Tony,

I stand by my great respect for AMD.

This company has the capability to come after Intel which they almost succeeded. I am sure it must have caused a few sleepless nights among the Intel executives. Intel, then at shareholders' expense, launched a counter-offensive and capitalized very effectively on AMD's mistakes.

Thing would have been a lot different if AMD did not get greedy and ran such aggressive design rules and process technologies. AMD could easily have pumped out twice as many K6s out there. Intel would have to cut chip price even deeper. Shareholders would be screaming for an armistice.

Is the chip war over yet? I don't think so. AMD just got more cash through new stocks and loans to fuel the chip war into a higher gear, but Sander is about to make another mistake by embracing the copper technology for next year. History shall then repeats itself, funny that it also does.

Despite all that, AMD is still a world class semiconductor company. They are still out there quietly cranking out millions of K6 and K6-2 every quarter. Soon K6-3 will be out.
