Doug --
Good questions. Let me play the devil's advocate:

a: What is the impact on the rev/employee due to the postponement?

If employees are down b/c of layoffs at UBNet, then you could just as easily ask what's the loss/employee that's been avoided?

b: What is the expected sales/employee when staffing increases become inescapable.?

If timed to an increase in the market, then John Lawlor's comment that the clock is starting now might just be brilliant timing.

c: Has the overall growth in the market also been delayed by a year and are there any studies to indicate that.?

If so, I believe the year is now behind us, at least judging by the press surrounding the increase in ATM/WAN sales. Getting the RBOCs to move has been akin to launching battleships.

d: If the market growth has not been delayed what is the extent of missed oppurtunities.?

It's my impression Alan Lutz has been brought on to make sure there are no missed opportunities, or if there have been to make sure there are no repeats. You don't get a management shake-up of this magnitude without reason. I'm also guessing we'll see more changes before the dust settles.

Just my take.

Later --

Pat
