It was also borrowing against equity to invest in the wild market. I remember reading about all the homeowners who were borrowing against the equity in their highly inflated real estate, and putting the money in the market. At the time I shook my head, and said that this was another 1929 in the works. The only reason that Japan has not totally collapsed is the Gvt has been propping up the failing banks, thus postponing the inevitable collapse. Like the S&L debacle of the early 90's the Japanese banks have many bad loans (to the tune of $1trillion). In time, they will have to pay the piper.

I do not want to draw too many parallels between YHOO and the failed Japanese market. I just wanted to point out the inevitable end to irrational exuberance, along with my point of demonstrating that YHOO's current valuation is irrational.
