What competition? :) Seriously, there is nothing in the same league that I have ever seen. Some people use Visio to draw the pictures, but it has no intelligence at all. Some data modeling tools such as Erwin can generate Object databases from relational tables, but big deal. Nothing manages the complexity of OO development from requirements thru to testing like Rational's tool suite. Period. And I am convinced that they have such a lead, and mindshare in the OO community that they may never face serious competition. If you were looking for tools, or training on OO, wouldn't you want to get it from the guys who "wrote the book" literally? (Booch, Rumbaugh, and Jacobsen)
