THE ALBERTA STOCK EXCHANGE SIX MONTH REVIEW
CALGARY, July 9 /CNW/ - During the first six months, the ASE listed 83 new companies as compared to 101 in the same period in 1997 and 67 for 1996. Companies choosing to list through the JCP program during the first six months totaled 63, a nominal decrease from 66 during the same period in 1997.
During the first six months 61 Junior Capital Pool Companies completed their Major Transactions as compared to 38 in 1997.
There were 1,024 companies listed on the ASE on June 30, 1998 as compared to 918 on June 30, 1997.
Over the past six months, 21 ASE listed companies also became listed on the TSE.
Trading activity in terms of volume, value and number of trades was down during the period from the same period last year.
There were 57 member firms as at June 30, 1998 (June 30, 1997 - 53). Member admissions during the period included IPO Capital Inc, Emerging Equities Inc. and First Delta Securities Inc. In April McDermid St. Lawrence Securities Ltd. and Goepel Shields & Partners Inc. merged to form Goepel McDermid Inc.
The Exchange has recently adopted a policy requiring all issuers having securities listed on the Exchange to disclose any determination by the issuer of whether or not there are any systems or business implications arising from the Year 2000 Century Change on them. This disclosure must be made in all applications for listing and in materials, which accompany the issuer's financial statements and/or Information Circular distributed to shareholders during the period of July 1, 1998 up to and including December 31, 1999.
