The dangerous effect of long short/long is that we can make a wrong assumption then the loss is too big. I already had that pain tremenduosly in shorting BFT. (BTW do you still short bft, I plan to get out the rest and wait and see). I have limited funds so I will cover amzn at small gain tomorrow (hopefully) then reshort higher (the risk is it might drops after you recover) in/out to practice as well as gain more (don't laugh I am ready to count pennies).
One of my new strategy is to buy/short stocks in a trading range for 3-5% many times a week until my account is less red.
Well tell you after I get back most my loss then I stay away for a while or really invest (long/short and diversified) instead of high stress trading. I think I have to use stop loss from now on!
(Any advice on BFT is welcome)

Kip wish you luck w/ XCIT, LCOS play. Some who depends on TA think amzn is broken now, so you might want to short/long in/out in a day. I picked amzn since I think it is harder to hype a bookseller at 100+ price. I was also lucky in having no more fund to short internut in Spring (after bft disaster) or I might be sent to mental hospital.
But I think if bullish exhuberance can push them this hi, then if economy turns sour we will see amzn in $20 soon.

Kip - "My strategy with the internuts now is to hit to first base. Today was perfect. Sold LCOS at the opening, covered at the close."

The continued price volatility, and massive trading volumes associated with the "nuts" does make them very attractive day trading vehicles from both the long and short sides, IMO. YHOO, with it's daily intraday price swings of ~10-20 dollars is proving very fruitful fodder for the adept. The quick-on-the-trigger-gang, after always doing their due diligence :), must be having a field day with the sector. The mania should continue. Summer games.
