Is Manugistics for sale?

Speculation of a takeover also attracted a lot of interest for calls in software company Manugistics (MANU). A normally quite issue, Manugistics July 25 calls (ZUQ=GE) attracted 960 trades, with the July 30 calls (ZUQ=GF) attracting 600 and July 35 calls (ZUQ=GG) attracting 340. There was virtually no interest in contracts that expire later than this month.

"The reason for the call interest in July is the speculation on a takeover. And all the dates I have heard are for next week," said Bill Lanzon, an analyst at Dain Rauscher. All July options contracts expire on July 17, a week from Friday.

Lanzon told clients on Thursday Manugistics has "rebounded" from its earlier difficulties, and his positive comments sent the stock up 19 percent on volume that was three times heavier than average. See Software Report.
