Joe,

Yes, I did mention that MPact coupled with a Celeron processor could provide a good sub $1000 PC solution. I still believe this and do not understand why the MPact was not better accepted. I look at this as good news for Cyrix. The Celeron line will have to now wait for Mendocino coupled with Whitney to provide such a solution.

Pravin.

Well, Cyrix has a lot of help wanted ads for VLSI circuit designers. Maybe they can hire some of these folks.

Joe,

INteresting news. This makes the GX and MXi even more attractive now. The problem with the Mpact line was that it provided a lot of functionality in one chip.. now the only thing that comes close (graphics, modem, 3d, audio, etc.) will be the Gx and Mxi (which also contain a full blown core).

Jozef, Chromatic's problems go a long way toward explaining STM's new alliance with IBM (STM previously announced their intention of marrying their 486 core with Mpact). If their success with IBM is anything like their experience with Chromatic, the last two day's news represents a big plus for NSM.
