A few more details on the IBM/STM deal

eet.com

For the PC-on-a-chip market, STMicro and IBM will now work to a
common product road map evolving from the current STPC family. STMicro
developed its X86-based STPC from a license from Cyrix Corp. (Richardson,
Texas) at a time when both IBM Microelectronics and SGS-Thomson were
acting as foundries for Cyrix.

Besides an X86 core, the current device includes an MPEG-2 audio and video
decoder and extensive video cores that make it possible to display PC output
on a TV screen. Following generations of standard products will be jointly
developed by IBM and STMicro, with each having the right to develop custom
or derivative products separately.
