J,

I don't know if Ancor has anything at Medusa, but your message reminded me of a couple of things I read last night. The June, 1998 issue of Computer Technology Review has a Fibre Channel article on page 50. It is written by a couple of McData guys. They say, "Recent testing at the McDATA Systems Integration Lab has shown that it is easier to implement Fibre Channel in a multi-initiator environment with a switched fabric than with an arbitrated loop."

Normally, I'd be fired up about that statement, but the downside is that McDATA has their own integration lab. That seems to make the case that Ancor's competition is MUCH better funded, and can simply do more on all fronts. That is an uphill battle that Ancor will continue to fight until they get a decent revenue stream.

The other interesting blurb in the same magazine was about Jaycor's 16-port Fibre Channel switch. (It's a Silkworm) A nice picture was in the article, along with pricing. $1,895 per port in single unit quantities.
