Dom - Re: "Do you know about 3Dfx's technology?"

The VooDoo, and its successor, the VooDoo2, are 3D graphical accelerators that improve 3 dimensional graphic speeds - quite good devices for "gamers".

These devices still require a standard 2 Dimensional graphics card to perform standard PC graphics operations for Windows and EVERYTHING BUT 3D.

Thus, they are expensive and require TWO GRAPHICS boards to form a complete 2D and 3D solution.

Intel's i740 is a single chip 2D AND 3D graphics accelerator. Thus, it is a complete single chip solution and provides a few other functions as well (TV display -tuner required-, video capture, etc.).

The i740 compares very well with the VooDoo2 - better in some aspects and not quite as good - but close - in most others. Since it is a single chip, it is much more cost effective and simpler to employ than the VooDoo2 solution.

Accordingly, 3DFX has designed the Banshee chip which itself is a 2D and 3D combination chip. Unfortunately for 3DFX, the 3D performance of Banshee was "compromised" and this chip may not compete well with the Intel i740 in either cost or performance categories. It was also introduced a few months later than the i740.

3dfx and Intel

< Do you know about 3Dfx's technology? (symbol-TDFX)
Its products are Voodoo, Voodoo2 and Banshee. Part
of the stock's weakness is being attributed to INTC's
i740(AGP?). >

The (Joe six pack investor) feels that intel will be a threat to TDFX, thus such a ridiculous price. I have followed TDFX for quite some time and in the very near future Intel and TDFX will own this market. Intel will take the largest chunk of the pie because they can create the standard- inexpensive, reliable, everyone must have it. TDFX can be more than satisfied with the remaining 10-20% of the market which would be made up of hard core gamers who want power.

of course im an investor in TDFX, but this is a win win. Don't let the market make you think otherwise.

... P.S. I know this message wasn't meant for me, however I had an answer. Good day all!
