sonki,

i dont think PFE wants to split this year - i believe they want to wait for viagra fully introduced worldwide and the worldwide sales stabilize so they have a solid picture of future earnings etc before they would consider a split - dont forget PFE is at a nosebleeding 57.5 p/e on 1998 earnings - i believe they want the e to catch up more with the p before they would split the stock. The current earnings/revenues are very good and should at least support our recent trading range of 105-115.

Splits are far over rated by investors. The important think is the rate of earnings per share growth which for PFE is spectacular this quarter.

Splits probably meant more in the time when buying 100 share lots of stock really saved the investor money by getting a fraction better on the price. With the many forms of discount brokers now available where $8-20 commission can buy you 1 or 1000 shares, keeping the stock price in the range where many investors can buy 100 share lots is no longer important. Institutional money/mutual funds buy by the millions of $s and splits are irrelevant to them also.
