>>Is it possible that they are comparing apples and oranges: Yahoo talking about the float and ML talking about total stock size (float and non-float)? Unless it's something innocent like this, then we have a situation where someone's credibility is on the line, since Softbank does not account for nearly enough of the difference.<<

Aloha, and I really dunno the answer to your question. I suspect the answer is somewhere in between, as Koogle may be generalizing and inflating, and ML is using past numbers for a current report, If I were LONG, however, I would prefer the institutional ownership # to be lower. Individual investors are bad enough, but when institutional investors head for the door, LOOK OUT!

Aloha and happy investing,

>> Yahoo says 80% of its float is owned by institutions and Merrill Lynch says 27%. <<

Koogle was referring to 80% of the float being owned by institutions, ML was probably referring to ownership as 27% of the total outstanding. If Softbank owns 31% obviously they aren't included with the institutions at 27%
