Joe,

Here are a few questions for Mr. Frymoyer:

1. Who are the three companies he is referring to with FC to ethernet bridges?

2. Are these bridges FC to ethernet or FC to GE?

3. Could these bridges allow FC to compete with GE as a backbone technology?

Thanks,

George D.

Joe (if I may be so bold to refer to you by your first name),

Could you give an overview of the acceptance of Fibre Channel and a projected timeline (i.e. many thought 96-97 would be the dawning of the "age of FC"... but that seems to be slipping to 98-99-00 and beyond). I'm specifically referencing Ancor's OEM's, Brocade becoming public, etc.

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and perspective.

VR,
Wayne

Hi Joe M,
You must be very busy this wk. I see you were sharing the microphone with Mr. Edwin Lee, who has made some nice posts on this very thread! How did it go?

TESTING FIBRE CHANNEL PERFORMANCE AND INTEROPERABILITY

A high performance technology like Fibre Channel requires testing methods and tools to develop products, debug systems, construct implementations, and monitor and control operating systems. Basic Open Systems interoperability is a minimum requirement. Of even greater interest is operability of Open Systems components under heavy traffic in a diverse environment. A number of companies have developed Fibre Channel test equipment to assist the testing, evaluation, and operation maintenance issues. Examples, methodology, observations and tips from testing lab experience will be presented from interoperability labs, performance test labs, and manufacturers of Fibre Channel test equipment.

Marc Farley, VP Engineering, Finisar
Barry Reinhold, Director, UNH Interoperability Lab

Maybe you, or someone else who attended, could make comments
on the general interest level for the FC sessions and what will happen next? Thanks for any help..

Joe,

Next time you see Ed Frymoyer ask him if he is familiar with this gentleman and would he care to comment on the following :

<<Dr. Michael Weilert, a principle developer of fibre channel, has now
taken this medium to a wide area network with no limitations as the
original fibre channel system. With his system, he overcomes the year
2000 computer glitch. 1 gig per second data transmission over any
medium, TV signal over the same node, cost in equipment relatively low as compared to other developing systems. He needs people to listen to what he has so it can be implemented. The savings to all concerned is enormous, and his system will set the standard for the next century.>>
