OFF TOPIC but Interesting:CANADA has a COSTLY IMAGE PROBLEM Paraphrased from Southam News (CHRIS COBB) The following conclusions were made after a survey by the Goldfarb company of European business executives for the Dept. of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. 1. Of companies considering investing in North America, 85% feel the U.S. offers the best investment climate compared to only 9 % for Canada.---(This is funny as the TSE has done very well in spite of Asian crisis etc., lower dollar makes Canada very competetive for asian markets too.) 2. More than half of the executives believe that Japan is the U.S.'s largest [monetarily] trading partner, when in fact Canada is. 3. The executives rely on outdated financial information from the 1950's and believe that Canada is still primarily resource based; when in fact, approximately 70% of Canada's exports are industrial and manufactured products rather than resources . 4. Almost all of the executive believe the U.S. business environment is more competitive than Canada--(Well we know the tax situation is, and entrepreneurship is much lower in Canada due to the highly conservative banks and relatively young venture capital system) 5. Executives don't care or ignore Quebec Separation Issue. 6. British companies have no affiliation to Canada, inspite of strong Common Wealth ties.---(This is typical Colonial behaviour, same for former colonies of France. Thank you for your resources but don't dare come to England or expect jobs or trade... you dirty ginnies. Try to get a common wealth scholarship if your Canadian... guess what they don't exist! But they do if you are British and want to go to school for free in Canada or Australia!!!) 7. When asked what sort of information european executives would like to receive about Canada, barely two in 10 could even think of anything to ask.---(This is dire indeed! May as well right us off, eh? I guess they never watch the CBC television. Hey but even Americans want to buy ROOTS clothing now! It is start.) Cheers, Graham
