From his article...IMHO..his first paragraph says a lot about his "grasp" of DELL, et el.

<< Bulls are dreaming if they don't recognize that PC demand is slowing and Asian storms are raging harder than ever. Look for computer stocks to turn soggy as winter approaches. Analyst Report
By Bret Rekas>>

Let's see...ANY company who has not yet braced themselves for the Asian crisis deserves to be worried...that news is over a year old. As for a slowing of demand...is he NUTS...we are coming into the hot time of the season for computers, etc. Granted we MAY not see the quantum leaps in sales as in the past...but it "ain't gonna' be no garage sale either."

I may have to eat crow...but I doubt it. Baring any NEW negative news from some other source than what he mentioned I think Dell will do quite nicely again this year.

Thanks for sharing the article,

T.R.

John, your post to that article was great because it contained yet another example of analysts who can't analyze.

Dell Computer (DELL), which more than doubled, and Microsoft (MSFT), which managed a 67.7% gain in the first half, remain seemingly impervious to any negative news. ... The ever-increasing Internet insanity suggests that concept stocks without earnings or fundamentals are ideal in this difficult environment since they theoretically are immune to deteriorating macroeconomic fundamentals.

Okay, what negative news? Have I missed something here? Seems to me that Dell is showing its true colors in a market which has been very
difficult for its competitors. So just what bad news is this guy talking about? And Microsoft (disclosure: I do not own MSFT)??? Come on! When the DOJ's suit looked like a real problem MSFT was punished. Now the DOJ's suit is eviscerated. They release Windows 98 and sales are better than expected. And they sell an operating system for every PC sold. Sub zero or Pentium II -- it doesn't matter. So is this guy actually contending that the stock didn't respond to the news?

Just what theory is he alluding to that says that a concept stock is "... immune to deteriorating macroeconomic fundamentals." Does anyone on this thread know of such a theory?

Another wonderful example of analyst gibberish.

TTFN,
CTC
