Andrew:

If you look at sales to price valuations Netscape is grossly under the values of Lycos and Yahoo etc, wouldn't you think theink market is already discounting what you call netscape's problems? But don't you think netscape has some very talented people who just might turn things around? If they develop their site so that people what to stay and it sounds to me they understand people are not staying which is why they the portal says : coming soon more personal finance information ? etc?

I would think if you like to play the short end of the market you would want to look at the media companies that are losing advertising
revenue to the net companies?

Steve, I happen to think your cricism of Netscape senior management lacks crediblity.

Who is it you think has made strategic mistakes in the past?

You could do some home work on the subject and avoid the generalizations about netscape senior management and the poor execution you allege.Try the recently released book Speeding the Net.

In case you hadn't noticed they are competing with a monopolist ruthlessly protecting it's status.
I think nscp mgnt has demonstrated a capability to answer every challenge laid in it's way.

Looking back over the last 3 years the only criticism I would level is the obvious slow consumer portal strategy.
Open source /free browser earlier? Maybe. But remember Navigator was a major revenue source until version 4 of IE.

Jim Barksdale is considered by many to be one of the top CEO's anywhere.
You are also way wrong about Andreessen.
