I suspect Geoff that the reporter uses phrases that are conveniently easy for him & his readers to understand. For anyone that knows what has been going on in the PC supply chain the concept of "price war" is bogus since it applies only to the retail channel & doesn't take into consideration lower component costs and positive currency translation. In the retail channel, however, channel resellers who are no longer afforded inventory price protection must rely on discounting to clear older or excess inventory. If the reporter wants to call this a "price war" so be it. These are the terms and ideas used by 'conventional wisdom' thinkers and this helps investors who are are willing to go beyond just scratching the surface in analysing great stocks such as DELL.
