PG SHORTCUTS: parentalguide.com

July 10, 1998, Friday
Copyright 1998 Newsday, Inc.

Omaha, Nebraska-based Parental Guide is selling two models for retrofitting existing televisions for
$99.95 and $84.95.

The company was the first to have its v-chip certified by the Federal Communications Commission, a commission spokesman said. Scarborough, Ontario-based Tri-Vision International Ltd. won't begin selling
its v-chip until September.

(HOW DID THEY GET THIS? ANYONE CONFIRM THIS?)

The units will be sold at Harvey Electronics, 2 W. 45th St. in Manhattan. They will go on sale at other locations during the next several weeks as more broadcasters begin encoding transmissions for the technology, the company said.

(NO MENTION OF WHERE.... next several weeks, last time they said that it was a few months)

Programs broadcast by CBS, TBS, FOX, TNT, the Cartoon Network and Classic Movies are already encoded. Other networks expect to begin transmitting encoded programing soon.

(NO SURPRISE THAT NBC isn't encoding... what about ABC?)

On the PG DECODER:

Parental Guide will offer two models to help parents block transmissions, the PG-PlusT and PG-OneT. The PG-PlusT provides V-chip technology incorporated with an interactive on-screen display, remote
control, two extended ratings tables and a "Tamper Guard." Suggested retail price is $99.95. The PG-OneT retrofit unit provides V-chip technology, a user-friendly keypad, optional remote control as
well as a "Tamper Guard." Suggested retail price is $84.95.

(WILL TVL DECODERS BE CHEAPER?)
------------Cheers,

Graham
