[ It's Coming, Sort Of (This is not a poem) ]

From my ISP, Evolution Communications:

A note from BellSouth!

ADSL (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line) provides high-speed
Internet access over traditional copper telephone lines, the kind
that almost certainly run to your house. Instead of using a
conventional modem, terminal adapter, or cable modem box, ADSL
uses a pair of transceivers - one in the Central Office, and the
other in a box similar to a network termination unit for ISDN on
the customer's premises.

With current ADSL technology, you can transmit data at over 6
Mbps per second when your data is moving in one direction (to
OR from your computer). Data moving in two directions (to and
from your computer) moves at speeds up to 640 kbps. Assuming
a comparison baseline of 33.6 kbps, ADSL provides one-way
(transmit or receive) data communications about 175 times faster
and two-way data communications about 20 times faster than
the data transmission and reception available over regular
telephone lines.

Important: Bell South will begin testing ADSL service later
this year. This service is currently not available to Bell
South customers

evcom.net

Of course, *I* don't have BellSouth, so it's a moot point for me.

[ More ADSL Rollout News]

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998--

Epoch Internet, one of the nation's largest, privately held Internet solutions
providers, Monday announced they are offering TSpeed to businesses in
the Metropolitan Boston area.
TSpeed, using Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology, delivers
scaleable, dedicated Internet access at speeds up to 1 Megabit per
second, at the lowest prices available in the Boston area.
Additionally, Epoch is one of the first, Tier-1 backbone providers to
bring DSL to Massachusetts which ensures users get dependable Internet
access, a reliable network that is proactively monitored, and superior
customer service.
TSpeed appeals to businesses that can no longer tolerate the
inherent instability associated with non-dedicated, on-again/off-again
dial-up connections, or who previously could not justify the
investment of a fully dedicated line. Businesses can easily connect
single or multiple users by using existing phone lines bypassing the
need for different protocol necessary when configuring ISDN
applications. TSpeed's flexibility allows a company to initially
connect a few users and simply add more and increase access speed as
necessary. Epoch fully manages the process of adding new seats and
E-mail configurations without any interruption to the user's
connectivity.
