Re: "economic triage"

Hmmm ... have to look up the word triage. It also seems, given the latest reports, that my general feelings are being confirmed regarding the future of Europe's economy. It doesn't look good.

And just to give you people a real life perspective on Russia. I have a few friends of mine who used to live in Russia and now reside as citizens in Canada. They try and keep in touch with their relatives in Russia as much as possible. In general they say things are going from bad to worse in Russia, and there seems to be no light at the end of tunnel.

Five years ago my friend, who will remain anonymous, stated that things were tough but his family was getting by. Now he doesn't say much all. Except that things are very bad. Food, power, electricity ... everything is becoming very difficult to obtain. Oh yes, and he did mention one other thing. Russian criminals. He said that if you were lucky enough to run a legitimate bank or company over there, or be employed by one ... your life expectancy was 2 years. If one criminal gang didn't get to you, another one would. He said no one trusts the government, no one trusts the banks, and people are being kicked out of their homes. People are very fearful. It is a very serious situation folks.

I feel for my friend, and especially his relatives.I keep hoping that Russia will somehow pull itself up by its bootstraps, but when things appear to get better, they only seem to get worse. I hope above all else that they can avoid a civil war. Nuff said.

P.S. I used to be an optimist ... now I am just an optimistic realist.
