There is something about the AMAT announcement that really does bode ill, i.e.

<<The Company currently expects new orders of $600 million to $675 million, net sales of $850 million to $885 million >>

This looks to me like a book-to-bill in the 70% range. I'm not so surprised at the earnings (nor the fact that 15 out of 18 sell-side analysts still have "buy" or better recommendations on AMAT), but to me, this shortfall in orders is ominous for the mid-term.
