<<View of the World -- Myth of the Middle-Class Shashi Tharoor >>
This article represents conditions as they exist in India.
Wrigley's expected the Indians to take on the chewing gum, because Indians culturally are betel-chewing people. It did not work that way.
I am sure also that the frugal Indian is going to cannibalize the discarded computers and make a Bharath Computer to do his work,or better still a PARAM COMPUTER <ggg>. The Indian middle class, that most of the westerners are talking about, is overestimated in numbers and are not moneyed as their western counterparts and more inclined to use Jerry-built computers, & has no idea ( doesn't bother about )of copy-right laws, while using software.
