So. Korean Govt. Will Bar Chaebol Export Financing (11:20 a.m. EDT, 7/10/98) By Jack Robertson Trying to head off foreign protests, especially from the U.S., the South Korean government last week decided to bar any export financing assistance to the largest chaebols. The government will go ahead with a multiyear $4 billion export promotion program with small and medium size firms --- but that isn't expected to stir up much international criticism. The U.S. Semiconductor Industry Association and Micron Technology Inc. have been especially vocal against any further government financing to help the big Korean chip makers out of their money troubles. pubs.cmpnet.com =========== EECA Renews Dumping Query (11:25 a.m. EDT, 7/10/98) By Jack Robertson The European Electronic Components Association (EECA) last week formally asked the European Commission to investigate whether South Korean chip makers had been dumping DRAMs last year. EECA had conducted its own study and concluded there were sufficient grounds to launch a dumping complaint with the EC.
