RRman, I use to live in Southern California. (1983 to 1994) Via cable TV I received the So Cal Business Channel. In the mid to late eighties, Richard Ney would come on every day. He would review large block trades in various stocks and illustrate how the market was being manipulated.

In addition, at that time, there was an tax advantage to buying and holding for six months. I used both to create indicators to help follow the MM's movements.

I came to believe in his logic. IMHO, the big block activity was not always an immediate indicator of a pending move. Richard Ney was often early on his calls. I think that hurt his numbers.

I do believe the market is manipulated. I do not believe the indices could move like a school of fish! You read the post on SI, do you think we all decide to buy and sell at the same time? Do you think that the market indices turn at nearly the exact time intra day, because most investors decide to do the same thing at the same time?

I know specialist control the price of stocks. They move the price and the volume follows. Of course, some times the volume is there, but the price is not moved. (Specialist not only profit from the spread, but they are allowed to trade their own accounts in competition with their customers.)

Good Trading.
