rrman: Since specialist can and do buy and sell for their own accounts, (I believe for insiders as well) I respectfully disagree with you.

However, I am not going to try and change your mind. You have as much right to your point of view, as do I.

How can this statement of the specialist controlling the price of a stock be correct when over 70% of the orders transact directly between a representative of the buyer and seller bypassing the specialist? Perhaps this statement is true with the more illiquid issues. I have seen evidence with preferred issues to support this specialist control of price.

Now the NASDAQ MM may be a different story.
