WavePhore Stock Rises on Prospect of Enlarged Microsoft Stake

Phoenix, July 10 (Bloomberg) -- WavePhore Inc. shares rose
was much as 30 percent after the Internet company said it was
comfortable with a report that Microsoft Corp. is likely to
increase its 3.5 percent stake in the Internet data broadcaster.

Shares of the Phoenix-based company rose 2 9/16 to 13 1/2 in
midafternoon trading of 4 million, more than six times its three-
month daily average. Earlier they touched 14 3/16.

Analyst Joel Krasner of First Albany Corp. was quoted in
Business Week as saying Microsoft probably will increase its
stake because Chairman Bill Gates likes to have a larger say in
the investments his company makes. WavePhore makes a technology
allowing wireless transmission of Internet-based data.

''We feel comfortable with what he's saying,'' said Glenn
Williamson, WavePhore's chief operating officer. ''We think he's
going in the right direction.''

Microsoft declined to comment on the report in Business
Week's ''Inside Wall Street'' column.

On March 6 WavePhore's stock jumped 25 percent on the
disclosure that Microsoft bought 2.9 percent of the company in
November. Microsoft has declined to confirm or deny the
disclosure from Technimetrics Inc., which tracks institutional
holders.
