Ther is much more to the equation than price. 1) Will a majority of your avg American shmucks want to buy goods online or go to a local store. 2) Does the inconvenience of online purchase (cost of S&H, and delivery latencies vs. instant gratification) outweigh the price savings.

These are just a few of many issues. Also, B&N could kill Amazon by matching their online prices at the local store.

BTW: I spoke to a friend today who likes Amazon. He goes to B&N, finds books that he wants, then orders them in bulk (the only way to really save money with Amazon). THis is a lot of work to save a few dollars. I'd rather spend the extra money shopping in the neighborhood. But then I rarely visit the cheap supermarkets either. I prefer quality goods and service, not cheap prices.

THere will be a business for online purchases. But will it appeal to the masses? I am not so sure.
