Tricord Distributed Storage Controller With Tricord Storage Management Software Certified I20 Compliant
"New Level of Standards-based Interoperability" Achieved
PLYMOUTH, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 13, 1998-- Tricord Systems today announced that its Distributed Storage Controller (DSC) running Tricord Storage Management Software (TSMS) has been certified ''I20 Compliant'' by the I2O(R) Special Industry Group. Tricord's DSC is the industry's first file-intelligent storage controller that supports the fault tolerant distribution of files and meta-data across disks and controllers. This certification provides assurance that Tricord's software meets I2O architecture standards for the efficient development and consistent performance of intelligent I/O subsystems.

I2O Speeds Development, Heightens Interoperability
I2O provides a standard software architecture for intelligent I/O, making it easier for vendors to add cross-platform intelligent I/O functionality to products and in turn broadening the availability and applicability of intelligent I/O devices for customers.
The Beta 1.0 version of Tricord's DSC with TSMS utilizes an Intel(R) I960 processor running WindRiver IxWorks(TM), and supports SCSI disks with either Symbios or QLogic HDMs. TSMS, running in one or more DSCs or comparable controllers, creates a single, shared storage pool across all controllers that enables data sharing, on-line dynamic expansion, and continuous availability for network-attached storage.
''Before the advent of I2O it could take six months to develop a low-level device driver - at the end of six months all you had was a product that ran on a specific hardware controller,'' says Ambrose. ''With I2O we were able to switch SCSI controller hardware, bind with a new HDM, and were up and running in four hours. When we talk to OEM's about our product they can see a close fit - they all have I2O products in development and there's a huge amount of synergy.''
