PCP population and VVUS.... latrobe33 Jul 11 199812:40AM EDT I currently am employed with a large HMO organization. Many of the PCP MDs I work with have encountered patients whom have failed on the BIG "V". Their concern is what is the alternative which is the most safe and cost-effective alternative to ED. I consult that MUSE and Caverject are the alternatives. Yet, the PCP population is reluctant in prescribing these alternatives because the HMO organization will NOT allow them to prescribe these alternatives to the ED population....Yet, will allow them to prescribe Viagra "at patient request"...(as quoted from a PCP). I am very confused....as an educated RPh at the most reputable school in the nation...What has the United States resorted itself to....I believe that BIG business seems to manipulate the majority of our nation to believing that by mouth is more-effective and cost-effective than local-therapy for the treatment of ED....Today, again, I have received a call from a PCP who had a patient fail on Viagra....The PCP insisted upon Muse....Yet, again the HMO would not allow the PCP to prescribe MUSE. Again, I am very confused. As an RPh, I believe that local therapy for severe ED is the most cost-effective and most efficiant therapy available. I would hope that Vivus insists upon a partner to educate the population upon the benefits of local therapy -vs- systemic therapy....It is standing right in front of us....WE NEED TO MARKET THE PRODUCT!!!!
