Greetings ratlong,

That's a interesting name: does it mean 'long on rational'? :-).

I'll quickly give my answer on some of your 'weekend
assignments':

Well, Ericsson (ERICY) has standardized on using Rose. I've
seen departments where virtually every desktop has Rose
installed. BTW, I'm not bringing the 'rumoured big deal'
from Ericsson back again, but they do actually use Rose on
a large scale basis.

Talking for Scandinavia, they are eagerly advertising for people
here also. Rational bought SoftLab, a service organization with
consulting and training, last year in order to quickly increase
their service organization (they also had some consultants
from the acquisition of ObjectOry). But most of consulting
and training in Scandinavia are done from other sources than
Rational. I am myself doing consulting and training in
object-oriented development (UML, analysis & design) and often
informally cooperate with Rational: I teach the 'theory' of OO,
and they teach the tools. It works rather well. I know many
other consulting and training businesses that recommend and
support Rational tools as well. So I don't think the product
sales has to suffer, but RATL could easily employ a much larger
service organization here in Scandinavia (which again is why
they are advertising).

Since Rational used acqusition to increase their service
organization in Scandinavia, maybe that's a possibility for the
US as well?

Best,

Hans-Erik
