From Voodooextreme:
I'm not going to do a full comparison against all of Anand's
TNT Benchmarks. But you can see by the below numbers
that the TNT on a PII400 is no where near the Voodoo II
SLI for Quake 2.

Demo1.dm2 640x480
TNT-57.0 (my Riva 128 4MB gets 47fps)
Voodoo II 12mb SLI-88.5

Demo1.dm2 800x600
TNT-52.6
Voodoo II 12MB SLI-86.4

Demo1.dm2 1024x768
TNT-34.9
Voodoo II 12MB SLI-70.7

Massive12.dm2 1024x768
TNT-32.7
Voodoo II 12MB SLI-57.7

My above SLI Benchmarks are with all default settings. If I
tweak it, I can improve the above results approx. 20% for
all video resolution modes. Since I don't have the single
Voodoo II in my PII400, I did not report them. But with a
single Voodoo II my numbers are just a few fps less than
the SLI above numbers(1024 N.A.). One important note.
See the TNT's 32.7 on the Massive1 at 1024x768. This
shows that the TNT is useless for Quake2 multiplayer at
1024x768 resolution. 32.7 on the Massive1 is just too
slow to be competitive in multiplayer games against
Voodoo II SLI users. You would have to use 800x600 if
you want to be competitive and not get major slowdown
when several players are firing in your field of view. Even
with the TNT 43fps that Arnand reports for 800x600
Massive1 means you will see some moments of 15-20fps
in severe multiplayer battles.

The S3 Challenge ?

Jim, Good Point:
RE: "I thought that TDFX share value was doing badly until I took a look at the 52 week of SIII and their balance sheet. You would have thought that after the Crellis reviews on the 9th and 10th that the stock would have shot through the roof. Damn market! The idiots can't seem to see the obvious...that you and Larry share." As posted by James Nickel.

This begs me to ask S3 the "American Question".

Hal

PS: The American Question, according to my European friends is : "If you're so damned smart, how come you ain't rich?"

The SIII Situation:
Shares are at or near the 52 week low. ($18 > $5 1/4). Balance sheet a shambles. Doubtful S3 (SIII) can even survive to Q4 without significant infusion of funds and share dilution. I think creditors may benefit long before the shareholders get a break.

The TDFX Situation:
