good morning:
I heard Goldman too..I didn't hear that part of the fundamentals of
Asia recovering quickly..I thought he said just the psychological
impact was in the market..
Alan..I am so confused at this point..I hear more and more first
hand stories about workers here working so very many hours..
one fellow told me he averages 13 and he has a good job..
a close friend is relieved since she no longer feels the necessity of
working weekends..
a friend said he felt humilated when he got a scholarship for his
little girl for nursery school..he only had to pay 4 thousand dollars
rather than 8 thousand dollars..he said people who make under 100,000
qualify for scholarships..the person where he was registering made a
loud announcement that his daughter was on scholarship..
real estate here has become astronomical..
also at this point I don't even think we need year2000 to worry about..just signed up for a new internet service and the technicians
didn't even know what was on the software package..the instructions said that my email was one address with a com at end but it only seems to work with a net at the end..
in my own little world I have just run into so many "technicians" who
know minus zilch..here our society is putting its foundation more and
more on technology...
also I have close friends who have been in programming for years upon
years..they have had to work on year2000 problem..they say it is such
an incredible mess..and just takes hours upon hours upon hours..
also early this morning ran into an 18 year old who is doing computer
work for an office..the head of office said he doesn't want to hire
older people..only teenagers because older people rip him off..I
know these kids are great..but give me a break..they haven't done much
problem solving and some are probably going to be off designing systems in a few years...ooooooowwww
(ps on the other hand,,that was sort of funny...can you imagine telling a 25 year old..you are way too old :>)
anyways Dohmen's forecast for deflation just makes me wonder if he
is expecting a collapse in real estate markets etc....
also heard a commodity's analyst say that when enough mines and companies go out of business..the new bull market in commodities shall
begin..
also heard another analyst say he was bullish on silver but the other
commodites keep on dragging it down with them...
but also curious about natural gas..as Richard S.'s always reminds me
the cost of transporting has to be factored in..so there should be no
affect from Asian deflation and probably little effect from Canadian
dollar devaluation..
strange times ahead
bobby
