I don't know whether that could be the answer or not. Nor, unfortunately, do I recall whether there was any mention of preferred stock in the now-poofed financials. I once owned shares in a mutual fund that--the story's too complicated to go into--suddenly announced that "a majority of shareholders" had voted to keep it closed end. This was, in fact, highly disadvantageous to said shareholders. And I'd never received a proxy. My broker said none of his other clients had, either, and that this was a definite no-no.
