rudedog - Re: " If everyone can align around 36 bit
architecture to get VLM, "

Excellent observation.

Very few "pundits" know that XEON has an extended address range of 36 bits, giving it a leg up on almost all other 32 bit processors - and narrowing (slightly) the address space advantage of true 64 bit CPUs such as Alpha.

2^36 = about 69 Billion Bytes of addressable memory - the big database folks love this kind of "room".

rudedog,

Re: <<there will be little in the IT world that these boxes can not address>>

What do you think of the probability of this happening?
