Indeed, that is the drawback with a mail order computer. Once again showing my age, I bought a 486 from Altec about 6 years ago. When it arrived, the video card was bad. I had to send it back and plug in a new one, which for a novice like me was nerve wracking. Not only that, it delayed me getting going about 2 weeks.

So you have a point. But I have found that if you stick with the better brands like Dell there are very few returns. At least thats my understanding. Could be wrong, but Dell wouldn't be where its at if it didn't make a quality product. No, I'm not pushing Dell, its just the only one I'm familiar with.

I am sure that this is one of CPU's strengths vs. the direct suppliers. I am just worried that as more and more people get used to computers, they will be tempted to try the direct vs. the retail side. But if you have a store in your area, you would be silly not to at least take a look at it.
