Found this little post about ATI being sued by Cirrus Logic over patent infringment for its Rage Pro chipset on the S3 thread:

It won't have any direct affect on 3Dfx but its nice to know that competitors can waste their money and attention in patent litigation.

Scanning the posts over on that thread also reveals a rumor that Intel is looking at licensing some of S3's patents to speed up development of Merced. (Let me reiterate! This is a RUMOR ONLY from an unknown source on the S3 thread.)
