Wonderfully clear explanation. I have copied it in an e-mail to my on-line broker which uses ARCA but not ISLD and asked them if perhaps they should use both and give us a choice. I had no idea that ARCA does not allow us to make a market and is so restrictive when we bid at or above the inside offer.

Sword, I don't understand why you say ARCA does not allow you to make a market. It is true that it goes through a preferencing sequence first, but if that fails, it then displays your bid on the TNTO ECN.
