It is unlikely that all computer systems and date-sensitive chips and software in equipment, or "embedded systems," can be
corrected before the deadline. Failures and disruptions are beginning to occur already as information systems reach the 2000
time horizon. Governors and state agencies should consider preparing contingency plans and communications strategies
before the end of this year.
