News on SAPhy

I got a private question from John re WTH is happening with SAP (6.5% drop Friday....urrrgh..in Frankfurt...like...Is it Beatles singing?

All you need is pain... (g)

Here's a translation from Saturday's Sueddeutsche Zeitung

SAP feels the Asian crisis more than expected (SZ, own reporting)

SAP AG of Walldorf reports that according to "the initial analysis of results" the revenues in the six months have grown app 60% "which means stronger than expected". The continuing investment in new workforce, reports the worldwide biggest supplier of enterprise ap[plication software, has caused approximate increase of 66% in costs. The pretax profit has thus increased app 40%; were it not for the provisions for workers' bonus program STAR, which was introduced in the second quarter, the increase would be 46%. In the 1st half of the last year the SAP revenues increased by 51% to 2.4 BDM and the profit by 56% to 582 MDM.

The Asian crisis manifested itself in the second quarter "stronger than so far expected". The revenues in the asian-pacific area decreased in the second quarter, mostly due to exchange rate factors. Additionally the business in this region (including Japan) was influenced by the clear trend to downsize the investment and software-implementation projects and/or to stretch them in time.

SAP will publish the final results for the first half of the year on 20th of July. The board sticks to it prognosis of pretax profit increase (disregarding the STAR program) in the range of 20 to 35%. In 1997 SAP improved its results by 72.3 % to 1.67 BDM. The revenues increased by 61.7% to good 6BDM.

MHO: we're just nervous. Otherwise the moneymaking machine is cranking away at a pretty much the same pace and the few pennies taken away to feed the workforce, starting 2QTR, are AAA investment the way I see it.

PS: Juri & K, hope you're not mad at me.
PPS: Friday in Frankfurt is a big, big hammer, if I ever saw one. Doji wan Kenobi, do you support my opinion?
