Good article Linda. On this thread we all talk about the zip being the "standard", but the article shows that SyQuest's problems are much greater the IOM's. IMHO IOM will win out over SyQuest. tombet

p.s. Grew up in eastern NC and always looked forward to reading the Sunday N & O.

Hi Linda, good to see you posting here again. I just read through the Sparq review and found that it is similar in tone to what other reviewers have expounded on in the past. It is amazing to me why the reviewer immediately tells you to go out and buy this product and then goes on to tell you significant frustrations he had either installing it or in this case "uninstalling it". Yes, the Sparq has some good features, mainly price and its 1 gig of storage, but as others have found it has its problems... "I don't have sound anymore!" "I can't seem to uninstall it from my system!" "The manual doesn't cover these problems!" and I now have to wait on the phone and thru long voice mail menus trying to talk to someone just to get it fixed. All this and it not being compatible with Jaz high density (sharing data and graphics files) are certainly factors that should be considered before making a recommendation for purchase of this product. Interestingly enough, the reviewer finally does address some of these points at the end of the review, but this is after his "unqualified" buy recommendation at the beginning of the piece.

I must admit though that the price is attractive if you just wanted to use it for backing up your hard drive, although many of the new computers now come with HDs with over 10 gigs of storage! For now, I'll just back my important data using my Zip drive.

Best regards, Mel
