Richard L. Clemmer, executive V.P. & CFO of Quantum states: "During the first six months of 1998, we've seen increased competition in the disc drive business as second tier suppliers have increased their shipments of hard drives. This has resulted in a significant oversupply of products and an aggressive pricing environment. We believe the industry as a whole has recognized this dilemma, and major suppliers are reducing their production to solve it.

Over the mid to long-term we expect strong growth in the storage industry to continue based on three important trends: more people buying computers to communicate and gain access to networked information; the dramatic increase in digital content, such as voice, audio, graphics and video images; and the increasing use of storage for content management. We believe these trends will drive the storage industry at a faster rate than the systems business itself."

I hope he's right!!!!!!!!
