Christine, Not that I'm a fan of Quayle, although I do think he wasn't the idiot he was made out to be, but I believe what he said in response to that question was that the family would discuss it, that he would counsel her and that he would support his daughter in her decision, whatever it might be. Maybe he said more than that and I don't remember it, but I remember respecting his admission that his personal views wouldn't interfere with his acceptance and love for his daughter. I don't see that as hypocritical at all. I don't think he's ever said that he would promote or recommend abortion for his daughter; to discuss and accept doesn't imply approval by any means.
Maybe there are other Republicans leaders who speak with forked tongues, but I don't think this was an example of one.
I know you and I are both opposed to abortion, but I don't believe we would turn our backs on our children for any reason.
What's the law now on parental consent? THAT would pose a problem for me if I had a daughter....
