The stock price will be controlled by the actions of Fidelity Select Electronic's mutual fund manager (whoever it is this month), and people like him. He doesn't act the way I do, because he gets rewarded and punished differently. If both of us think the stock will probably triple in the next 3 years, but might do nothing for the next 3 months, then I'll buy and he won't. My wife won't fire me and hire someone else to manage our portfolio. I know this because I first bought AMAT (and made it our largest holding) in February 1996. 6 months later, my wife's only comment was, "Gee, it looks like we don't have enough to retire yet."
