Loki,

I will give you my recap, later on Monday.... it is late, and tomorrow I have to tend to some commitments... you know, as the unemployed [soccer] hobo that I am, I need to get new cardboard for new roof in my "fabela"

I lost this year final, so no French girl friend for me.... that's o.k. as I already have 7 "pensions".... one per each day of the week.

He, he, he.....

Z.

Recap...

As with the tradition of the Olympics the WC purpose is to bring
nations together in single sports contest...Soccer. For much
of the world this is the case. It is unfortunate that exaggerated nationalism, insecurity, prejudice, and ignorance still exist, therefore, occasionally influencing this well loved sport negatively...

Yet, the best final match in the last 3.

Agreed 100 % I wish that all the garbage of the politician and nationalists etc. would be kept away from the sport.

On the other hand, I wish the damned politicians & generals would learn a little of the sportsmanship attitude, and more common sense would influence their actions, rather than their stuck up their gazziga piper egos......

RECAP WC 98, IMO

Biggest surprise: Croatia to third place<i/>

Yes, and Nigeria first three matches.

Biggest disappointment: Spain, Nigeria, Romania

Well.... Spain, Brazil (in the final), and Argentina.

Too many: Red cards, yellow cards, dives

Hmmmm... not quite, I think the new rules caused some of that but overall it was a positive thing, more on this later.

Not playing to talent level: Brazil and Netherlands in their
final games.

Add Argentina.... and Germany, but that was due to age.

Teams to watch in future: England, France

England in particular, Owen was an incredible surprise.... if he can mature without going nuts by the new found fame (and surely fortune), he is going to be one of the greatest of soccer, in the level of Vava, Garrincha, Puskas, Amarildo, Bobby Charlton... etc., etc.....

Exciting players(3 only):Owen, Ortega, Chilavert

Add, Hernandez (Mex), Zidane, (Fra), Denilson (Bra).

Changes

1. No golden goal... two 15 minute halves,
2. Instead of normal red card...player leaves...team plays with
10 men for 10-15 minutes and can bring back another (11th) player.
3. LeBlanc Rule - what a pity he had to miss the dream of a lifetime!!! WC final and your team wins at home!!!!
Video review fouls before red card bans player from following game.

1. Agreed 100 %

2. Absolutely not... you get a red card, you are out and team stays with ten players.... I would not like to convert soccer into an ice hockey game... you know, the one in which you say, I went to see a fight and a hockey game broke out...

The red card (and yellow), have made the players behave like they never did before...

3. Le Blanc was guilty of the same deed that Berkham committed, he was red carded properly..... having said that, upon the video review, the Croatian player should have gotten a red card, AND a monetary penalty...

I believe that suggestion by Bobby Charlton is an excellent one, I would add the monetary penalty to keep things clear....

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FRENCH SOCCER TEAM!!!

Ditto....
