Solon, whilst you suggest a good point&#151how do we know that's their only problem&#151the matter of accountability must eventually come into question.

In Dixie's case, she is flat-out publicly stating as fact that TLC is a convicted child molester and convicted stock crook. Mind you, she has no evidence, and it's just a whimsical fantasy in her own mind.

That is just plain socially unacceptable. There is no reason to let it go as a mere nuisance like somebody passing gas and babbling to an imaginary butterfly on their shoulder. Whilst it's often difficult getting psych professionals to be in complete agreement on any topic, I think you'll find that many support what I've said here. The line of accountability gets drawn on certain matters. Whether you're sick or healthy, you need to be called on it if you've crossed waay tooo far.

Dixie may be simply stupid&#151may be truly mentally disabled. Without doubt it's one or the other and perhaps some combination of both. If Dixie calls somebody a bonehead, that's easy enough to let slide. I call people boneheads, too. But this delusional public "conspiracy" and flagrant libel is quite another matter. Sick or not&#151stupid or not, the responsibility doesn't go away.

If you ask me to speak to generalities, of course I would say that I am all for a kinder, more gentle internet and world.

Should the mentally ill be mocked and abused? Of course not. But I don't think that's what we are dealing with here. I think we're dealing with willful behavior which ignores the truth and attempts to squelch free expression of opposing ideas.

Freedom of expression and anarchy are not at all the same. What we have here at SI is a superb forum which tries to provide the former without falling into the hell-hole of the latter.

Disagreements will often arise in this type of forum and SI would be a less useful place to me if it was full of nothing but happy, cheerleading agreement. Investments are not a religion, they are business. It is not a sin to be a doubter.

Disagreement is healthy, but willful disregard for the truth is inexcusable.

People have been accused of being ignorant, stupid, etc. ... and have then been mocked. Is that how we treat our ignorant and stupid.

On this thread it is.

Sorry. Couldn't resist. But one problem: the ignorant and stupid are so often extremely nasty, uncontrolled, and immature as well...
