I am slightly mixed on this one...I am appalled at the inability of the defendant to defend himself...and the brutality of the measure taken.
However, there is a need for procedure and decorum in a trial situation. Not being there, I don't know if the defendant was following that.
Even so, there are better ways to silence an overtalkative fellow.
